The lot that will hold Biergarten.
The lede item in this week’s Inside Scoop column involves Hayes Valley’s Proxy development, which currently boasts two up-and-running businesses, Smitten and Ritual Roasters.
As soon as next week, they’ll be joined by a rotating cast of food trucks, which will take the area that was once eyed by Delfina and 4505 Meats. Neither of those will be happening, but replacements are being considered, including pizza and meat substitutes, like Pizzaiolo and Prather Ranch. But again, it’s all still in TBD.
One thing that is quickly moving forward, however, is Biergarten. As previously reported, Biergarten is the 100-seat (or so) open-air spinoff of nearby Suppenkuche. Whereas Smitten, Ritual and the rest share the north lot, Biergarten gets its whole lot south of Linden Alley. Construction — for plumbing, etc. — will break ground next week, and the four shipping containers are currently being constructed in the East Bay (they’re halfway done).
But let’s talk Biergarten details.
There will be six rotating beer taps — but no boots. Just liters and half-liters will be available. On the food side, typical Bavarian beer garden fare will be offered in a full-service setting. What does that mean? Glad you asked! There will be bratwursts and potato salad, of course. There will also be a variety of pretzel options: pretzels with seeds, pretzels with cheese, and even pretzel sandwiches. There will be roast pork sandwiches and custom-made Firebrand breads, too. Also, eventually, a rotisserie oven will be installed, churning out half chickens, just like at Oktoberfest.
Regarding an ETA, the optimistic guess is mid-July, but as always, dates and delays are up to the gods.
